A good song in the good old days when I wasn't born yet. "On the floor of Bougainville" Thai Phrakan Chivit (a Thai life insurance company) used this song for its TV commercial.
The song is played in the clip as a favorite of the Alzheimer-suffering wife. She still loves to hear the tune when she has lunch with her husband, whom she can't recognize as her better-half anymore.
I found the original of the song in YouTube.
The original of "On the floor of Bougainvillea" was sung by Vinai Chunlabusapa of Suntraporn Orchestra. How similar the way of singing to that of Japanese singers in those days!
Mr. Vinai was a government officer of PR department. His master, Ua Suntrasanan, founder of Suntraporn orchestra, was also the head of a band of PR department, the position of which Mr. Vinai succeeded to after Mr. Ua's retirement.
It seems that in those days all the famous singers in Thailand were officers or ex-officers who had received both western & traditional music education.
Of course, I'm exaggerating...but Suntraporn Orchestra was the first western style band in Thailand, and the band seems to have been founded with the support of the government.
Anyway, he was the great lead vocal of the historical Suntraporn Orchestra, whose nick name was "The King of Tango" (Yes!, On the floor of Bougainvillea is a Tango) I like his voice and his way of singing. It sounds so nostalgic!
Lastly, I would like to put the clip below to show the similarity of his singing to Japanese singers' in the good old days. The singer is Futamura Teiich, who was a star singer in 1930s-40s in Japan. He had some classic music background. The song is his "My Blue Heaven"
Cheers!
