先日、スカイプ閉鎖のニュースがあったが、この歌は、スカイプが出始めの時に作ったと思う。１０年近く前かな。人生の半分を過ぎるまで携帯電話が存在しなかった自分くらいの世代にとって、スカイプは驚異的だった。国際通話が、料金を気にせずに、顔を見ながらがかけられるのだ。初めは、そういうサービスがあること自体が信じられなかったほどだ。

スカイプ、のちにラインの登場は、海外への出稼ぎ労働が多い、タイやフィリピンの出稼ぎ労働者にとって、間違いなく福音だったろう。オーバーではなく、スカイプのおかげで、出稼ぎが原因で離散する家族が、ずいぶん減ったと思う。今では考えられない話だが、家族への国際電話が「週に一度、月に一度の贅沢」という時代があったのである。テクノロジーの発達が、人間生活を豊かにしてっくれた良い例だと思う。「昔は良かった」・・・なんてことは殆どないのである。
